16 CFR 1610 Textile and Garment flammability performance requirements Aug 15, 2019

In 16 CFR part 1610, definitions applicable to the standard are specified in detail, such as statutes, rules and regulations, standards, garment exposed parts, coated fabrics, flat woven fabrics, suede woven fabrics, finishing types, and so on.

This standard applies to all sorts of finished or unfinished fabrics made of natural or synthetic fibers, as well as garments made from these fabrics. Not applicable to hats, gloves and footwear, as well as linings.

According to the test results, the standard classifies the flammability of the textiles into three grades: Grade 1 is general flammability; Grade 2 is medium flammability; Grade 3 is fast and intense combustion, and stipulates that it meets all grades performance.

Specific test methods and combustion performance requirements are specified in the standard. The combustion performance is divided into three levels, and specific indicators are specified according to the type of product. It is clearly stated that Level 1 applies to clothing; Level 2 is only for suede textiles, and is also applicable to clothing; Level 3 cannot be used for making clothing and is prohibited from being imported into the United States.
